Recording of show is incomplete; missing song noted < >
Express Yourself is a song made famous by N.W.A., but
that hook is probably originally written by someone else?

Being in a bar, you get that intimate feeling. Very cozy if you will. I am not sure who the taper was with or around, but they will get on your nerves. Lots of woo's, talking about this and that and it gets over the songs. The bar setting itself was very noisey, which turns in to a grainy sound. Don't get me wrong, you can hear the songs, but some times the crowd is so loud you only hear them sing. Not the best show out there.

Thomas Aikin recorded this, and it is another one of the early San Diego shows Jack, Adam, and Merlo did. During a break between when they were opening for Ben Harper on his "Live From Mars" tour, The band played at the tiny 500 person Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, CA. Playing all of BFFT and their early non-BFFT stuff, the band plays a great set, that shines through even though the sound quality isn't that great. Loud talkers, loud bar, poor mic placement, all detrement the recording, but the fact that it was made gives it extra points. Jack even comments that because they don't have that many songs, Merlo (the bass player) would be spinning records after their set. After the set, the band just hopped off the stage onto the floor and hung with everyone for hours, enjoying the good beer and good times. I still remember hearing the band play "Express Yourself" (The Charles Wright and the 103rd St. Band song) for the first time on this recording and immediately being hooked on it. They didn't play it live again till the feb. 2002 tour, and it was a good return of a great song. This possibly was the first full-band San Diego show they did, with jack doing his first solo SD show on Nov. 29, 2000 at UCSD Price Center, and the next one in Jan or Feb. 2001 at the Martini Ranch in Encinitas, CA.
